Beekeeping School 2011

We will be conducting two classes for beginning beekeepers in the Spring of 2011 Classes will be held at my shop in Bowdoinham, Maine.

Class 1 will run February 19; March 5; and March 19, 2011.
Class 2 will run February 26; March 12; and March 26, 2011.
Both classes will meet together on April 16, 2011 for package bee delivery

The first three classes start at 9:00am and run to about 3:00pm.
The final class runs from 9:00am till we are finished with the installation of bees in the hives.

The fee for the course is $50.00 per person and includes coffee and donuts for early morning and a sandwich and soda lunch.

Space is limited – please reserve you spot by emailing or sending a check.

The course will cover the information you need to know to get your equipment assembled, get your bees and manage them through the entire first season including, we hope, the harvesting of your first honey crop. Discussions will include the flowering plants that benefit honeybees, races of honeybees and their attributes, the life cycle of the honeybee, and the diseases and pests that affect the honeybee. Hands on will include installing bees in the hive and assembling equipment.

Finding the Queen and Making “Nucs” for Increase
May 2010 – May 15, 2010 10:00am to 2:00 pm. $25.00 per person cash or check at the class

Call for rain date if it is raining.

We will spend some time finding the elusive queen. Knowing where to look is more important than looking.

We will set up a couple of nucs in different manners so that if you want to make an increase to your bee yard the cost of a new queen is all it will take.

Honey Removal and Winter Preparations  August 28, 2010  10am to 2 pm $25.00 per person at the class.

We will discuss and demonstrate the different methods for removing honey and show you the “Maine” way to get your bees ready for winter.
